Gift Certificates allow a customer to pay for a specific activity upfront without having to specify the date on which they (or the certificate recipient) would like to go on the trip. Gift Certificates differ from Gift Cards in that:

  • Gift Cards have a specific monetary value assigned. That value can be applied (as full or partial payments) toward any activity, products, and anything else available for purchase through your TripWorks account.
  • Gift Certificates represent full payment toward a specific activity. When a customer redeems a Gift Certificate, they are simply selecting the date and time on which they plan to go on a trip that has already been paid for in full.

Note: Gift Certificates are different from Voucher Codes, which are one-time-use discount codes used for reseller partnerships (like Groupon or TravelZoo). If you're looking to create and manage discount codes, see the Voucher Codes article.

Review the instructions below for details on enabling the Gift Certificate program, assigning certificate styles to specific activities in your catalog, and redeeming certificates on behalf of your customers.

Step 1: Enable Gift Certificate Program

  1. From the toolbar, go to Setup > General > Gift Certificates
  2. Select the Enable Gift Certificate Program checkbox
  3. Choose Update

Step 2: Add a Certificate Style

In order to enable Gift Certificates for an individual activity, you must have at least one certificate style to choose from.

  1. Navigate to the Gift Certificate Styles tab
  2. Select the New Certificate Style button
  3. Give your new certificate style a fitting name (visible to your team only)
  4. Save your changes
  5. In the resulting dialog box, you can either drag and drop a downloaded image file or select the Browse link to choose a file from your device. Make sure the image in question is clear and meets the requirements specified.
  6. Choose Upload Style

Step 3: Apply a Certificate Style to an Activity

With your new certificate style created, you can apply it to one or multiple activities in your catalog. When you apply a Gift Certificate to an activity, you are making it possible for customers to pay for that activity upfront, then book at a later date when they are ready to reserve their prepaid trip.

  1. From the toolbar, go to Setup > Activity Catalog
  2. Select the activity to which your new certificate should apply
  3. Choose Gift Certificates from the sidebar menu
  4. Ensure the Enable Gift Certificate Program checkbox is selected, then choose the desired certificate style from the drop-down menu
  5. Save your changes
