Yes. TripWorks supports 3D Secure (3DS) — the step behind Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) — automatically at checkout. You don't turn it on or configure anything; it's built in, backed by our payments partner Stripe.
How it works
When a card's issuing bank decides a payment needs extra verification, TripWorks automatically presents the 3D Secure challenge — the guest confirms the payment with their bank (a pop-up or redirect, often a code or app approval). Once they pass, the payment completes; if they cancel or fail it, the charge doesn't go through.
This happens across every place a card is charged — the online booking widget, the customer portal, and point-of-sale at the register — so you're covered without any setup. The same secure checkout also handles other payment methods, like Klarna and digital wallets.
A successful 3D Secure authentication also shifts liability for fraudulent-card chargebacks to the card issuer — protection you get automatically. For the payments we can't catch this way, TripWorks flags suspected fraud right on the trip — see How TripWorks protects you from fraud & chargebacks.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to enable or configure 3D Secure?
No. It's automatic — the challenge appears only when the card's issuer requires it, so most payments go through without an extra step.
Why did a guest get asked to verify with their bank?
That's the 3D Secure challenge. The card's issuing bank requested extra authentication for that payment — common in regions with SCA rules or for higher-risk transactions. It's expected, and it protects you against certain fraud chargebacks.
What if the guest fails or cancels the challenge?
The payment isn't completed. Have them retry — with the same card (approving the bank prompt) or a different card.
