Klarna is a Buy Now, Pay Later option that lets guests split a purchase into installments or pay later, while you're paid the full amount upfront. It shows up as a payment choice at online checkout alongside cards — there's nothing to turn on.
Why offer Klarna
- Higher conversion and order values — guests book more when they can spread the cost.
- No risk to you — you receive the full amount in your regular payout, and Klarna collects the installments from the guest. If the guest doesn't repay, Klarna takes the loss, not you.
- No extra account — Klarna works through your existing TripWorks payment setup; there's no separate Klarna merchant account to set up.
Do I need to enable it?
No. Klarna is on automatically for every account that takes online payments — it used to be a beta feature, but it's now generally available. It appears at checkout on its own.
One requirement: Klarna is offered on USD transactions only. Guests checking out in other currencies won't see it.
What the guest experiences
- At checkout the guest chooses Klarna.
- They're redirected to Klarna's secure site, where Klarna shows the payment plans it offers for that order.
- The guest picks a plan and completes it with Klarna.
- They're returned to TripWorks and see their booking confirmation.
The plans Klarna offers depend on the guest's location and the order amount — Klarna decides what's available, not TripWorks.
Where Klarna payments show up
Klarna is tracked like any other payment:
- Trip Details — the payment appears in the trip's Payments section, labeled Klarna.
- Reports — Klarna transactions are included in payment reports and can be filtered by payment method.
Frequently asked questions
When do I get paid for a Klarna order?
In your regular payout, for the full amount (minus fees) — the same as a card payment. Klarna collects the installments from the guest separately.
What if the guest doesn't pay Klarna back?
Klarna assumes the risk. If a guest fails to repay their installments, Klarna absorbs the loss — not you.
Can guests use Klarna for a deposit?
Yes. Klarna can be used to pay a deposit or the full balance at checkout, wherever card payment is offered online.
Why don't I see Klarna at checkout?
Klarna is offered on USD transactions only, and requires online payments to be set up on your account. If your checkout is in another currency, Klarna won't appear.
