You'll see this when a manually entered payment method — Cash, Check, EFT/Wire, Voucher, or Other — is temporarily unavailable on your account. It means your account was automatically flagged for taking too many manual payments relative to card payments over the prior period.
It's a safeguard: because manual payments are recorded by hand rather than run through the card processor, an unusually high share of them can indicate a problem, so TripWorks pauses those methods until the balance looks normal again.
What to do
Complete the transaction with the Credit Card payment method. The manual methods aren't gone for good — the hold lifts automatically as your share of card payments rises back above the threshold. There's nothing to toggle and no setting to change on your end.
Frequently asked questions
Why can I take card payments but not cash right now?
The hold applies only to manually entered methods (Cash, Check, EFT/Wire, Voucher, Other). Card payments are unaffected — and taking them is exactly what brings your ratio back in line and releases the hold.
How long does the hold last?
There's no fixed timer — it releases on its own once your ratio of card to manual payments comes back under the limit. Keep processing card payments normally and the manual methods return.
Is something wrong with my account?
Not necessarily — it's an automatic check, not a penalty. If you have a legitimate reason for a high volume of manual payments, contact TripWorks support and we can review your account.
