Why is the promo code field greyed out on a trip?

The Promo button on a trip's Payments tab is disabled when a code can't be applied — the trip is paid in full, a code is already applied, the trip is deleted, or it has no items. What each reason means and what to do.

On a trip's Payments tab, the Promo button is disabled when something about the trip means a code can't be applied. Hover over it and TripWorks shows the reason as a tooltip. There are three:

A promo code is already applied

Only one promo code can be active on a trip at a time, so once one is applied the button locks to stop a second from stacking on top.

What to do: Remove the current code from the trip, then apply the new one.

The trip is deleted

No changes can be made to a deleted trip, including adding a promo code.

What to do: If it was deleted by mistake, restore the trip first. Otherwise there's nothing to do.

No items on the trip

The trip has no bookings or gift-card purchases attached, so there's nothing to discount.

What to do: Add a booking (or gift card) to the trip, then apply the code.

Don't see a Promo button at all? It's hidden for team members whose role doesn't include applying promo codes — an admin can grant that permission.

Frequently asked questions

Can I apply a second promo code on top of the first?

No — a trip takes one promo code at a time. Remove the current one first, then apply the other.

The trip's paid but I forgot the discount — what now?

Apply the code anyway. A trip being paid in full no longer blocks it: the discount comes off the total, the trip shows the difference as Overpaid by that amount, and you refund that back to the guest. See apply a code after the trip is paid.

The code is valid but still won't apply — is this the same thing?

Not quite. A greyed-out button is about the trip's state (deleted, nothing to discount, a code already applied). A code that's rejected after you try it is about the code's own rules — see promo code limits and usage rules.
