Capacity: unlimited

The Unlimited capacity model sells every timeslot without a cap. When it's the right choice for large venues and self-guided experiences — and when to switch to a capped model instead.

Unlimited accepts as many bookings as come in — no cutoff based on headcount or resources. It's the default model for a new activity, and the right one when running out of room simply isn't a concern.

With Unlimited, TripWorks doesn't calculate a remaining-seats number for the timeslot: every slot stays open and bookable no matter how many tickets sell.

When to use it

Unlimited fits when both of these are true:

  • There's no practical cap on attendance — a large park, an open-admission event, a self-guided walk or audio tour.
  • You don't hand out resources (boats, kayaks, guides) that need tracking.

Example. You're running "Shakespeare in the Park." The lawn holds far more people than will ever show, and there's no equipment to assign. Unlimited keeps sales open all season without babysitting a counter.

When to switch away from it

Choose a capped model the moment attendance does have a ceiling:

  • Turnout starts to strain your team or venue → switch to Per timeslot to stop sales at a fixed headcount.
  • Different ticket types need different limits (e.g. cap kids separately) → use Per ticket type, per timeslot.
  • Bookings consume real equipment or staff → use By resources.

You set the model on the activity's Capacity tab — see set activity capacity limits.

Frequently asked questions

Is Unlimited really the default?

Yes. Every new activity starts on Unlimited until you pick another model.

Can staff still see how many people are booked?

Absolutely — booking and headcount numbers still appear on the trip, manifest, and reports. Unlimited only means there's no ceiling that stops sales.

My guests can't add as many tickets as I expected — but I'm on Unlimited.

That's a booking restriction (a per-transaction limit), not capacity. Unlimited never caps the timeslot itself.
