A manual discount is a one-off price reduction you apply to a single booking — a goodwill gesture, a local's rate, a manager's call at the counter. It's different from a promo code, which is a reusable code a guest enters that applies under set rules (see how promo codes work). Use a manual discount when you're adjusting this booking, right now.
Apply the discount
- Open the booking and go to its Payments tab.
- Select Discount.
- Enter the discount amount.
- Add a note explaining why — this is required, and it's what makes the discount auditable later.
- Select Apply Discount.
The discount shows on the booking's payment summary, and the balance updates to reflect it.
Applying a manual discount needs the discount permission. If you don't see the Discount option, your permission group doesn't allow manual discounts — an administrator controls this under your team's permissions, so you can grant it to some roles and not others.
Manual discount vs. promo code
- Manual discount — you apply it directly to one booking, for any reason, with a note. No code involved. Permission-gated to your staff.
- Promo code — a reusable code (percentage or amount) that applies automatically when a guest or agent enters it, under the conditions you set (dates, activities, usage limits).
Reach for a manual discount for a one-time adjustment; set up a promo code when you want a repeatable, rule-based offer.
Frequently asked questions
How do I discount a single booking?
Open the booking, go to its Payments tab, select Discount, enter the amount, add a required note, and apply. The discount appears on the payment summary and the balance updates.
What's the difference between a manual discount and a promo code?
A manual discount is applied directly to one booking by your staff, for any reason. A promo code is a reusable code a guest or agent enters that applies automatically under rules you set. Use a manual discount for a one-off; a promo code for a repeatable offer.
Why can't I apply a discount?
Manual discounts are gated by the discount permission. If the Discount option isn't available, your permission group doesn't allow it — an administrator can enable it for your role.
Do I have to explain the discount?
Yes — a note is required when you apply a manual discount. It keeps discounts auditable so managers can see why each one was given.
Can I limit which staff can give discounts?
Yes. The discount permission is set per permission group, so you can allow some roles to apply manual discounts and not others.
Where does the discount show up?
On the booking's payment summary, with the balance adjusted accordingly. The note you entered is stored with it.
