There are a variety of field types to choose from when creating Custom Fields‍. Each field type offers a unique functionality to the customer or team member who completes it:

  • Text fields allow users to type in answers to prompts. The character limit for their responses depends on which text field type you select (single-line or multiple-line).
  • Quantity fields allow users to input a number from a predetermined set of values.
  • Checkbox fields allow users to select or deselect a checkbox.
  • Dropdown fields allow users to select one option from a predetermined list of items.

Choosing the Right Field Type for Your Custom Field

Our Custom Fields‍ article provides instructions for how to create a new custom field. This article provides examples and instructions for each unique field type you may choose. Select the title of each field type below to learn more about it.

Text (Single Line)

To give users the ability to type in their own, single-line answer to your custom field prompt:

  • Choose Text (Single Line) from the Field Type drop-down menu

Pro Tip

The Hint field allows you to pre-populate the custom field with a sample response, which the user can update while booking their trip.

  • Text entered into the Hint field appears light gray during the booking process, signaling to users that it is a sample response. If the user completes their booking without updating the text field, the custom field response will appear blank to your team when reviewing booking details

Checkbox

To allow users to indicate their response to the prompt by selecting or deselecting a checkbox:

  • Choose Checkbox from the Field Type drop-down menu

  • If you want the checkbox for your custom field to be automatically selected when the user reaches it, select the Checked by Default checkbox toward the bottom of the page. Regardless of whether the field is checked by default, the user will be able to select and deselect the checkbox as desired before completing the booking

Quantity

To allow users to input a number from a predetermined set of values:

  • Choose Quantity from the Field Type drop-down menu

  • Towards the bottom of the page, input the Minimum and Maximum values from which you want users to be able to select

  • If you want a specific value to appear in the field automatically, type the value into the Default Value field. Keep in mind that the default value must fall within the number range you defined in the Minimum and Maximum fields

Pro Tip

As with the Text (Single Line) field type, you have the option to pre-populate the custom field with a sample response in one of two ways. You can either use:

  • The Default Value field, which will submit the value you define as the user's true response if the user does not manually edit the field when booking the experience

  • The Hint field, which displays your chosen value as a sample response in light gray and will appear as a blank response in your records if the user does not manually edit the field while booking

Dropdown

To offer prompt responses in the form of a drop-down menu:

  • Select the Add button once for each drop-down option you want to provide
  • Type in the text you want to appear for each drop-down option
  • If you want one of the options to appear as the default response, select the Default checkbox next to that item

Text (Multiple Lines)

To allows users to type in a short response to the prompt:

  • Choose Text (Multiple Lines) from the Field Type drop-down menu

  • If you want a specific response to appear in the field automatically, type it into the Optional Default Value field

Pro Tip

  • The Hint field, which displays your text in light gray, indicating that it is a sample response, and will appear as a blank response in your records if the user does not manually complete the field while booking
