Groups often want to split the cost of a trip: everyone paying their own share, or one person covering a few tickets. TripWorks gives you a few ways to do it.
In this article
Two ways to split
- Apply an exact amount — take a payment for the specific amount one guest wants to contribute toward the total.
- Use the Tab feature — select the specific booking(s) a guest wants to pay for and run a payment for just those bookings, so each person pays for their own tickets and add-ons.
The Split Payment Calculator
After a group activity, the calculator helps settle the bill two ways:
- Individual tabs — each guest pays for their own tickets and add-ons. For example, if four guests each have a $10 ticket but one added $60 of add-ons, that guest owes $70 and the others $10 each. One person can also cover several tabs at once.
- Even split — divide the total evenly so everyone pays the same "fair share," regardless of who ordered what.
Pick whichever the group prefers, and TripWorks does the math so you can take each payment cleanly.
Send each guest a payment link for their share
A payment link always asks for what the whole booking owes: the deposit if nothing has been paid yet, otherwise the full remaining balance. The guest can't type in a smaller amount, so you can't send one booking's link to four people and have each pay a quarter.
To have each guest pay their own share online, give each payer their own booking first:
- Book each payer's tickets as a separate booking (its own confirmation code), with that guest as the contact.
- From each booking, send the guest your Request for Payment message. See Create a request-for-payment message.
Each guest then gets a link for exactly what their booking owes. If the group pays you in person instead, you don't need separate bookings: use the Tab feature or an exact amount at your desk, as described above.
Frequently asked questions
Can one guest pay for several people?
Yes. With the Tab feature, select multiple bookings and run a single payment for them — for example, one guest covering their own and a friend's ticket.
Can we split the total evenly instead?
Yes. The Split Payment Calculator can divide the total evenly into equal shares, or bill each guest for their own tab.
How do I send each guest in a group a link to pay their own share?
Split the group into separate bookings first, one per payer, then send each booking's Request for Payment message to that guest. A payment link always charges the booking's deposit or full remaining balance, so a single group booking can't be divided into several links. Each payer's own booking gives them a link for exactly their share.
Can a guest choose how much to pay from a payment link?
No. The payment page shows the deposit due (if no payment has been made yet) or the full remaining balance, and charges that amount. To take a partial or custom amount, record the payment from the trip in TripWorks, or split the group into separate bookings so each link covers one guest's share.
