Setting Up Gift Cards

Discover the step-by-step process for implementing digital gift cards.

Gift cards let customers purchase a dollar-value credit that someone else redeems to book any activity you offer. Once the program is enabled, a Gift Cards tile appears in your booking widget and customers can complete the purchase online. Each sale generates a unique code the recipient enters at checkout to apply their balance.

Before you begin

Stripe must be connected to your TripWorks account before customers can purchase gift cards online. Confirm this by going to More > Integrations and checking that Stripe shows as active. If it isn't connected, gift cards can still be issued manually, but online sales won't work.

Step 1: Enable the gift card program

  1. From the main navigation, select More > Discover More.
  1. Select Gift Cards.
  1. On the Settings tab, check Enable Gift Card Program.
  2. Check Show Gift Card Tile in E-Commerce Catalog so customers can find and purchase gift cards through your booking widget. If you leave this unchecked, the program is active but invisible to customers online — you'd need to sell gift cards manually.
  1. Under Pricing Options, set up to four denomination amounts. Choose amounts that reflect the range of your activity prices — for example, $50, $100, $150, and $200 works well for most operators. Customers pick one of these amounts at checkout; they cannot enter a custom amount.
  1. Decide whether gift cards should expire. Most operators leave expiry off — it's more customer-friendly and reduces support requests. Enable expiry if your business has a specific accounting or legal requirement to limit how long credits can be held.
  1. Select Save.

Your gift card program is now live. Customers can purchase gift cards immediately using the default card designs included with your account. Custom styles are optional — you can add them now or any time later.

Step 2: Upload custom gift card styles (optional)

TripWorks includes three pre-designed gift card styles. If you want to offer branded designs with your logo and artwork, you can upload your own. Each custom style requires a 2400×1200 PNG file.

  1. Within the Gift Card editor, select Styles.
  1. Select + New Gift Card Style.
  1. In the instructions panel, select download our Photoshop Template to get the correctly sized base file.
  1. Open the template in a photo editor, add your logo, artwork, and terms & conditions, then export as a 2400×1200 PNG.
  2. Back in TripWorks, enter a Name for the style.
  1. Select Save, then upload your PNG. A photo editor opens for final adjustments.
  1. Select Done, then Upload Style to save.

Verify the setup

Open your booking widget and confirm the Gift Cards tile appears alongside your activities. Click through to verify customers can select a denomination and proceed to checkout. If the tile isn't showing, confirm that Show Gift Card Tile in E-Commerce Catalog is checked in the Gift Card settings.

Troubleshooting

The Gift Cards tile doesn't appear in the booking widget.
The most common cause is that Show Gift Card Tile in E-Commerce Catalog was left unchecked. Go to the Gift Card settings and enable it.

Customers can't complete a gift card purchase.
Gift card sales require Stripe to be connected. Go to More > Integrations and confirm Stripe is active. If it isn't connected, customers will be unable to pay online.

A custom style upload fails or doesn't look right.
The image must be exactly 2400×1200 pixels and saved as a PNG. Images at a different aspect ratio or in JPEG format may fail or display incorrectly.
